Schniederjans, Albertson enroll early at GT
Georgia Tech ended the fall season ranked No. 5 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings, but will add a couple of newcomers to its roster this spring. Oliver Schniederjans and Anders Albertson, two of the top players in the state of Georgia and in the 2011 class, have enrolled at Georgia Tech, although neither player is expected to play for the Yellow Jackets this spring (though both are eligible).
“We’re extremely pleased to add Ollie and Anders this semester,” Georgia Tech coach Bruce Heppler said in a statement. “This gives them a chance to get their feet wet academically, learn a lot about college golf and what it takes to be successful on this level before their window starts.
"It’s great to have in-state players of this caliber in our program. Ollie has had tremendous success in junior golf, and Anders has played well at the Dogwood and played in the U.S. Amateur Public Links event, and they can both compete at a very high level.”
Schniederjans, ranked fifth in the 2011 class according to Golfweek, won the 2009 Jones Cup Invitational and has 14 top-10 finishes in junior events in the past two years. Among those performances was a third-place finish at the 2010 Junior PGA Championship, fourth at the 2010 AJGA Polo Junior Classic, and eighth at the AJGA Junior Players Championship. Albertson, meanwhile, posted five top-10 finishes in junior golf events over the past two years, including fifth at the 2010 Carolinas/Georgia Junior Championship. He is ranked 82nd in Golfweek’s Rankings.
“The half-year they get ahead of beginning competition next fall should be very helpful to both of them,” Heppler said. “It was a great benefit to Richard Werenski, who enrolled here last January and had good success this fall.”
Werenski did not play last spring. He has played in all four events this fall and is No. 126 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings.
