Demo Day kicks off intriguing PGA Show

Wednesday, January 26, 2011

WINTER GARDEN, Fla. – The 58th PGA Merchandise Show begins in earnest on Jan. 27, but for all intents and purposes it gets under way with today’s Demo Day at Orange County National Golf Club.

This is the day when some 5,000 PGA members and invited retailers get an exclusive preview of the newest innovations in golf equipment. In short, it’s a day to test drive, to grip it and rip it.

The PGA Show continues to evolve, and pundits debate endlessly its very existence in today’s day and age. There’s a saying: If you’re booking orders this week, you’re dying.

Thus, it’s difficult to do a trust cost-benefit analysis. To me, it comes down to this: Do you want to turn your best customers over to the competition for three pivotal days? I don’t think so. And that’s why Ping, Titleist and TaylorMade are all back for this year’s show.
