Stackhouse (No. 4, 2012) commits to Stanford
Tuesday, July 5, 2011
Mariah Stackhouse, of Riverdale, Ga., has given a verbal commitment to Stanford for the fall of 2012. Stackhouse made the decision after visiting a slew of East Coast schools including Duke, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina and Vanderbilt.
Stackhouse took two unofficial visits to Stanford before making her decision, one last fall and another during this year’s spring break.
“I love the academics, which are most important to me,” she said. “At schools like Stanford, you can’t get any better than that. And the campus is amazing.”
The 17-year-old also explained that the rest of the campus just felt right.
“A lot of my friends have told me that when you step foot on campus, you’ll know that that’s the school you’re supposed to go to,” she said.
Stackhouse has won twice on the AJGA circuit already this year, taking her total career AJGA wins to four. She also is making her first U.S. Women’s Open start this week at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Colo., and with a little more peace of mind, thanks to her recent commitment.
“You love the process, and then once you’re done visiting, you kind of want to be done with everything.”
