Zac Blair wins Pacific Northwest Amateur
BYU junior Zac Blair defeated Tyler Raber, 5 and 4, on July 16 in the scheduled 36-hole final of the Pacific Northwest Amateur Championship.
Blair bogeyed the first hole in the morning, then birdied the third hole to even the match against Raber, a senior at UC Davis. Blair didn’t trail again, taking a 2-up lead by winning Nos. 9 and 10 and leading 4-up after the first 18 holes at Tetherow Golf Club in Bend, Ore.
Blair, coming off a runner-up finish at the previous week’s Sahalee Players Championship, has put himself squarely in contention for a berth on the U.S. Walker Cup team that will face Great Britain & Ireland in September. Blair, who also tied for second at the Sunnehanna Amateur last month, was to play the Colorado Open this week, then planned to compete at the Pacific Coast Amateur on July 26-29.
