McCurdy tops Reach in playoff at Palmetto

Will McCurdy outlasted 54-hole leader Nicholas Reach in a playoff to win the Palmetto Amateur on Saturday.

McCurdy, who closed with a final-round 69 to finish at 10 under, made a par on the first extra hole (the par-3 16th at the Palmetto Golf Club) to win the event. Both players were short of the green with their tee shots, but McCurdy, of Fort Payne, Ala., made his up-and-down.

McCurdy is a senior-to-be at Auburn who made four starts in his junior season, with his best finish (T-12) coming at the Gary Koch Intercollegiate.

Reach, the winner of the inaugural Junior Invitational, closed in even-par 70. Reach is an incoming freshman at Georgia.
