British Open winner's share up to $1.43M
ST. ANDREWS, Scotland – Organizers say the winner’s purse for next month’s British Open will rise to $1.43 million, an increase of $79,800 over the 2010 figure.
The tournament will be held July 14-17 at Sandwich, in southern England.
Peter Dawson, chief executive of the R&A, says his organization “strives to ensure that the Open provides the very best in all areas of the event.”
The last time the British Open was held at Royal St. George’s, in 2003, American Ben Curtis earned $1.1 million at current exchange rates. Ten years before that, Greg Norman’s check was $160,000.
