Continuing its effort to better market the tour globally, the LPGA has agreed to a two-year partnership extension with the Language Training Center, which is aiding players with language and cultural education.

LTC, based in Indianapolis, will host cross-cultural seminars across the LPGA and the Futures Tour, provide translation and interpretation services, and offer language training programs to LPGA players and staff.

The use of LTC has been a key component of the LPGA’s Cross-Cultural Development Program. It was designed to help the tour adapt and thrive in an international marketplace, especially as the tour’s membership becomes more diverse and its tournaments are increasingly staged outside the U.S. The tour opened the 2011 season in Thailand and just concluded the HSBC Women’s Champions tournament in Singapore.

According to the LPGA, the LTC has reported an increase in the number of players using its services. For example, Korean stars Na Yeon Choi and I.K. Kim are developing their English skills, American Vicky Hurst is enhancing her Korean (her mother’s native tongue), and Spanish 2010 rookie is studying Japanese.

With competitions in 14 different nations in 2011, the LPGA’s goal is to help prepare players and staff best assimilate into the cultures which they visit, providing additional relevance to fans and sponsors around the world.

“Our organizations both share the belief that understanding and embracing cultures and languages is an essential attribute for individuals working and competing in the global community,” said David Higdon, LPGA chief communications officer.
