Match Play will return to Dove Mountain in ’12
The PGA Tour and Accenture have announced that the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship will return to Dove Mountain in 2012.
The tournament has been played at the Marana, Ariz.-based course since 2009, and in the Tucson area since 2007.
“The community of Tucson has supported professional golf for decades, and we’ve enjoyed five years of exciting, match-play golf since the Accenture Match Play Championship moved to Marana in 2007,” said David Pillsbury, executive vice president of championship management. “We look forward to another successful Accenture Match Play Championship in 2012 when Luke Donald returns to defend his title.”
Donald outlasted Martin Kaymer in the 2011 championship match, beating the German, 3 and 2. Donald never trailed in any of his five matches, while Kaymer became World No. 1 by advancing to the finals.
As part of the announcement, the PGA Tour also named Gerald Goodman as executive director of the Accenture Match Play Championship, effective immediately. Goodman began work in the golf industry with the PGA Tour as a marketing manager. From 1995-2010, Goodman was the tournament director at the events held at Innisbrook Resort & Golf Club in Tampa, Fla.
Goodman replaces Wade Dunagan in the new role.
