Robert Rock hits a tee shot at the British Open

MALAGA, Spain – Robert Rock of England birdied five of his final eight holes for a 5-under 65 that tied him with four other players after the first round of the Andalucian Open on Thursday.

Fellow Englishman Jamie Elson and Swedish trio Johan Edfors, Rikard Karlberg and Oscar Floren were also at the top of a clustered leaderboard at the Parador de Malaga Golf club.

Edfors is looking for his first win since 2006 and birdied four of his last seven holes to finish in the top group at the European Tour event.

Karlberg matched Rock with five birdies on the front nine, after both players started on the 10th tee.

Floren needed birdies on his last two holes to grab a share of the lead.

Paul Lawrie of Scotland was among a group of five players sitting one shot back.
