Chan (No. 22, 2012) commits to UCLA

Lorens Chan of Honolulu has given a verbal commitment to UCLA for the fall of 2012. Chan, also considered Stanford, Duke, Columbia, California, USC, Washington, Oregon and San Diego.

Chan said he chose UCLA because of its academic reputation, coaches and its beautiful campus.

“UCLA is the best combination of academics and golf," he said. "I am excited to join one of the best teams in the country. I can’t wait to be a Bruin and start training under Coach Derek (Freeman). I also look forward to working with Coach Jason (Sigler) to improve my short game.”

Chan, the top-ranked player in Hawaii, became the second-youngest player in history to play in a PGA Tour event when he played in the Sony Open as a 14-year-old. He is a two-time champion of the Hawaii State Amateur Stroke Play, and also has two AJGA victories.
