Players: Defending champ Clark still sore

Tim Clark during the 2011 Sony Open.

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Saw Tim Clark this morning. The defending Players champion, sidelined most of the year because of right elbow injury, shook my hand using his left hand.

Not a good sign, that southpaw shake.

Just watched Tommy Gainey hit full wedge shots for about 15 minutes. My jaw remains dropped.

Two gloves. Slumped over. Feet close together. Grip so strong the right hand is all the way underneath. Fast action. Buggy-whip move with lower body.

Crisp contact.

While you won’t want to try that at home, you might want his two third-place finishes over the past three weeks.

Bottom line: Lot of different routes to the bank.
