Jordan Spieth, Golfweek’s No. 2-ranked junior, won his third consecutive Texas 5A high school state championship Friday, closing with a bogey-free, 8-under 64 at Jimmy Clay Golf Course in Austin.

Playing as an individual for Dallas Jesuit, Spieth finished at 12-under 132 (68-64) to win by seven shots over Mansfield’s Kolton Crawford and Austin DeGrate of Fort Bend Clements. Spieth finished T-13 in his freshman-year trip to state before winning as a sophomore and a junior.

“It was going to be my last high school round ever, so I just got out there and got focused, and I couldn’t have had a better day,” said Spieth, the 2009 U.S. Junior champion. “I really just wanted to win for my school and my coach.”

Leading by one entering the final round, Spieth made four birdies on each nine Friday, including four in a row, at Nos. 13-16.

“My putting kept me in it,” he said. “I had a lot of par saves that were 6 or 7 feet. I was really trusting my stroke, and the ball was finding the back of the hole.”

Spieth also closed out his AJGA career with a victory, winning the HP Boys Championship in February.

The University of Texas signee has a sponsor exemption to play in the HP Byron Nelson Championship on May 26-29 in Irving, Texas. Spieth tied for 16th in last year's Nelson.
