The recent death of Seve Ballesteros apparently will spur some changes to the European Tour.

Tour officials said May 17 that an announcement will be made shortly regarding the Seve Trophy (to be held in September) and, potentially, changing the European Tour’s logo to incorporate an image of Ballesteros.

“Following the sad death of Severiano Ballesteros, we are taking time to reflect on how best the European Tour continues to honor his memory,” George O’Grady, the chief executive of the European Tour, said in a statement. “Seve was the inspiration behind the European Tour as it is today, and it is both right and fitting that, in the fullness of time, we find the most appropriate way to acknowledge his unique contribution.”

In 2008, the European Tour underwent a global rebrand that resulted in the current logo of Harry Vardon, considered by many to be Europe’s first touring professional. The Harry Vardon Trophy is given to the player who wins the yearlong Race to Dubai.
