DALLAS - Texas A&M picked up its first victory of the season Tuesday at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate.
The Aggies, No. 31 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings, shot 22-under 830 to edge hard-charging Duke by a stroke. Oklahoma (845) finished third, Augusta State (848) was fourth and New Mexico (852) rounded out the top 5.
"It feels great to get a win at a tournament that has put together a great field," coach J.T. Higgins said. "When Jordan (Russell) and Cameron (Peck) play well like this, we feel like we can compete with anyone."
This was the third event of the season for Texas A&M, which placed second and ninth, respectively, at the Lone Star Invitational and U.S. Collegiate.
Russell, a senior All-American for Texas A&M, shot a final-round 72 to finish in a tie for second in the individual race. Lamar’s M.J. Daffue earned medalist honors after rounds of 65-70-67 to finish at 11-under 202.
