Vandermade, Pressel lead Longhorns to Rawls win
AUSTIN, Texas – Thanks to a 1-2 finish from Nicole Vandermade and Madison Pressel, the Texas women’s team won its Betsy Rawls Invitational on Wednesday.
The host Longhorns shot a final-round, 11-over 299 in swirling winds and finishing with a 16-over 880 total to win by 12 shots over Pepperdine (296), Tulsa (298) and Florida (303), who finished in a three-way tie for second at 28-over 892. Oklahoma State (302) finished fifth at 33-over 897 at the University of Texas Golf Club.
It was the second victory and third top 5 in four events this fall for Texas, which also won the season-opening “Mo”Morial Invitational last month at rival Texas A&M.
Vandermade shot a 3-under 69 in the final round to jump from a tie for sixth and captured individual medalist honors at 2-under 214, one shot better than teammate Pressel (72). Oklahoma State’s Kelsey Vines (71) finished third at even-par 216.
