Buchanan (No. 24, 2013) commits to SMU

SMU continues to get verbal commitments. This time, it’s Andrew Buchanan of Los Altos Hills, Calif.
Buchanan, the 24th-ranked player in the 2013 class, made unofficial visits to several top golf schools, including Stanford, UCLA, Oregon, Washington, Duke, Texas, Texas A&M and SMU.
“I liked the coaches, golf facilities, 2012 recruiting class and the campus and size of the school,” Buchanan said. “I plan to major in business, and they have a top-ranked business school with the Cox School of Business. I believe I can learn a lot from Coach (Josh) Gregory and Coach (Jason) Enloe and feel SMU has the best chance at competing for national championships down the road. I believe it is a good fit for both the school and myself.
“(Gregory) was hired by his alma mater, SMU, to build a team to compete for an NCAA Championship in golf at SMU.”
The junior at Menlo School in Atherton played in five AJGA events this past summer, placing in the top 20 in each. He won the AJGA Stockton Convention and Visitors Bureau Junior Open in August.
SMU’s other commitments from the 2012 class: David Lee, Austin Smotherman, Maxime Blandin, Bryson DeChambeau and Ryan Burgess. Those five are all expected to sign during the early signing period.
