Texas Tech ends season with Onion Creek win
Wednesday, November 9, 2011
Texas Tech won the Challenge at Onion Creek on Nov. 8, holding off Michigan and Texas-San Antonio for a four-shot victory. It’s the first win of season for the Red Raiders, who now will put the clubs away until February.
The Red Raiders finished the event at 34-over 874 a final-round 15-over 295 that was their highest team score of the week. Michigan and UTSA, coming off a win at the Alamo Invitational, were at 38 over.
“It wasn't our prettiest day, but our team found a way to win,” said head coach JoJo Robertson. “It's a great feeling to end our fall season this way. This group has worked hard all fall and this is a good win for us.”
Texas Tech senior Gabriella Dominguez claimed her second career victory after a birdie at the par-5 18th. She finished at 2-over 212, one shot ahead of runners-up Fabiola Arriaga of UTSA, Linda Luo of Michigan and Michelle Piyapattra of Columbia.
Augusta State did not finish the event as two players didn't sign score cards for the final round. Had they signed, Augusta State would have finished sixth.
