Sunday, October 2, 2011
Rigel Fernandes has given a verbal commitment to play college golf at the University of South Florida. Fernandes, who has won events on the FCWT and Hurricane Junior Tour, tied for second at the Hudson Junior Invitational in June and qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur.
Fernandes, who is ranked No. 40 in the 2013 class, made unofficial visits to Michigan, Auburn, Georgia and South Florida.
“I choose South Florida because of the team, the weather and the opportunity to succeed,” said Fernandes, who is from Mangalore, India, but now resides in Bradenton, Fla. “I also am excited to work with Coach (Chris) Malloy. I have never met anyone in my life that wants to win as badly as he does. I think he is a great guy, and he is going to lead me in the right way for my future. I am extremely excited about the opportunity to be a Bull and represent South Florida.”
