Why it’s important: For the second straight year, the Golfweek Division III Fall Invitational will closely resemble a national championship, with nine of the nation’s top 15 teams gathering in the Florida Panhandle.
Defending national champion Greensboro College will be back to defend its title at the event, which it won by 10 shots last year, finishing as the only team under par.
The Pride are off to a bit of a rocky start this season, after losing senior Brock Elder to graduation. Greensboro finished T-10 at the season-opening Gordin Classic NCAA Division III Preview. Senior Ben Nihart, who finished T-2 at last year’s Fall Invitational, will lead Greensboro in its title defense. Nihart was T-3 at the Division III Preview.
Texas at Tyler will enter the event as the nation’s top-ranked team, while historically strong Methodist is ranked No. 2, coming off a victory at the Preview.
Guilford’s Noah Ratner picked up an individual win at the Preview and will lead the No. 7 Quakers.
The teams will be competing at the Raven Golf Club at Sandestin, which hosted the Champions Tour’s Boeing Championship in 2006 and '07. The course is a Robert Trent Jones Jr. par-71 design that stretches out to 6,900 yards.
