CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – LSU broke out of a final-round tie with Alabama and captured its second title of the season, winning the Tar Heel Invitational by four strokes on Sunday.

The Tigers, No. 8 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings, finished the three-round event at 8-under 856. Madelene Sagstrom tied for fifth individually, while Tessa Teachman (T-11) and reigning NCAA champion Austin Ernst (T-15) also posted high finishes for LSU.

Auburn’s Marta Sanz shot a final-round, 4-under 68 to capture medalist honors at 9-under 207. She was one shot clear of N.C. State’s Augusta James, Alabama’s Brooke Pancake and Michigan State’s Caroline Powers.

Alabama finished second in the team race, followed by Auburn (861), North Carolina (862) and N.C. State (869).

LSU also won the season-opening Cougar Classic before a surprising 11th-place finish at the 18-team Mason Rudolph Fall Preview.
