JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. -- Kent State completed an improbable rally Oct. 16 at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate, shooting a final-round, 10-under 278 to win by seven strokes.

The Golden Flashes, No. 22 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings, began the final round in fifth, nine shots back of leader N.C. State. But four Kent State players shot under par in the final round, led by Kyle Kmiecik’s closing 67, to vault into the lead at 5-over 869. Corey Conners tied for third individually for the Golden Flashes, while Kmiecik, Kevin Miller and Taylor Pendrith finished joint 10th.

It was Kent State’s second victory of the season, after winning the rain-shortened Inverness Intercollegiate in late September.

Virginia (876) finished second in the team race, while Wake Forest (879), N.C. State (882) and Memphis (885) rounded out the top 5.

“What an unbelievable and phenomenal performance by our team today,” said Kent State coach Herb Page. “This is the type of finish you dream of as a coach.”

Missouri junior Jace Long earned his second individual title this season by shooting 2-under 214 (71-72-71) to tie N.C. State’s Mark Mark McMillen for medalist honors. Long continues to be one of the hottest players in junior golf, winning all six of his career titles in the past 13 months.
