Sooners hold off Texas Tech at Maxwell Berning
Despite nearly a month away from competition since its last win this season, Oklahoma has acquired little rust. The Sooners won their second consecutive event Tuesday at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic. Oklahoma also won the Golfweek Conference Challenge on Sept. 21.
Oklahoma shot 14-over 878 at home at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman, Okla., and held off a charge from Texas Tech to finish with a one-shot victory. Texas Tech carded the score of the day in the final round with a 9-over 297 to Oklahoma’s 12-over 300.
The Sooners also claimed the individual medalist in Anne Tanguay, who finished at 6-under 210, three shots ahead of runner-up Kimberly Kaufman of Texas Tech. Four players finished tied for third at 1-over 217: New Mexico’s Beth Buchner, Florida State’s Laure Castelain, Texas Tech’s Gabriella Dominguez and Texas A&M’s Katerina Ruzickova.
