Haag extends lead to five at Stocker Cup

Randy Haag continues his pursuit of a third Stocker Cup title, putting five shots between himself and his next closest pursuer during Saturday’s third round at The Preserve Golf Course in Carmel, Calif.

Haag, 52, has led since his first-round 4-under 68. He shot 71 in Round 3 and stands at 8-under 208 entering the final round. A bogey at the 18th hole Saturday left him frustrated at the end of the round, even though he had added two shots to his lead.

“Today was a combination of putts not going in and struggling a little with the long game,” said Haag, who plays out of The Olympic Club in San Francisco.

Earlier this year, Haag won his third consecutive (and sixth overall) Northern California Golf Association Player of the Year award and earned low-amateur honor at the Senior British Open.

Jerry Ledzinski, who played in this year’s U.S. Mid-Amateur, is in second place at 3-under 213, and Jeff Wilson and Kevin Marsh are tied at 214. Marsh is the two-time defending champion at the Stocker Cup.

“Today was a combination of putts not going in and struggling a little with the long game,” Marsh said.
