One of the top amateur golfers in New England, Charlie Blanchard has been named the head coach at Bryant University. Blanchard becomes just the second coach in program history, taking over for Archie Boulet, who retired following last season after a 47-year career.

“We are very excited to name Charlie as the next head coach of the Bryant University men’s golf program,” said Bill Smith, director of athletics. “He brings a tremendous amount of experience to our already well-respected program.”

A familiar face on the local golf circuit, Blanchard brings a decorated résumé to the Bryant program. A six-time Rhode Island Golf Association Player of the Year, Blanchard captured the R.I. Amateur Championship in 2002. That same year, he was the only golfer to win all five major Rhode Island tournaments and was recognized by the New England Golf Journal as the New England Player of the Year.

“I am very excited about the opportunity to serve as the head coach of the Bryant University men’s golf team,” said Blanchard. “It is truly an honor to take over such a successful and highly respected program built by Archie. Those are some big shoes to fill, but it is my goal to continue that success that Bryant golf has enjoyed over its history and become the best in the conference and region.”

A three-time United States Golf Association (USGA) Sectional Qualifier, Blanchard has won seven Rhode Island Mid-Amateur Championships throughout his career, most recently in 2009 and 2010, and captured four RI Stroke Play Championships, including the 2011 title. This past summer, Blanchard also claimed his fifth title at the John P. Burke Memorial Championship.
