Baylor wins season opener at Turning Stone by 11
Monday, September 5, 2011
Despite rainy conditions, Baylor expanded on a three-shot lead Monday in the final round of the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate and won by 11 shots. Baylor last won its season opener in 2008 at the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate.
Baylor posted a final-round 2-over 290 at Turning Stone Resort in Verona, N.Y., to finish the 54-hole event at 11-under 853. TCU placed second at even-par 864. Purdue and host Missouri tied for third at 2-over 866, while Bowling Green finished fifth.
TCU’s Julien Brun, who owned a share of the individual lead with Baylor’s Kyle Jones through 36 holes, won the individual title, finishing at 8-under 208.
“It rained the last 12 holes, but we continued to play well all day long,” Baylor head coach Greg Priest said. “With Mikkel’s (Bjerch-Andresen) 2 under and two other even-par rounds, we couldn’t have asked for better play in tough conditions.”
All five Baylor golfers finished the tournament in the top 15, including three top-10 performers.
