Nationwide Tour to skip Daniel Island in 2012

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Nationwide Tour president Bill Calfee says the tour’s championship won’t return to Daniel Island in 2012 because of the nearby PGA Championship at The Ocean Course.

Calfee said officials thought it made sense to take a one-year break from the Daniel Island Club because the area is hosting the final major of 2012 on Kiawah Island.

The Nationwide Tour Championship has been on Daniel Island since 2009 and will be played at the Ralston Creek Course from Oct. 27-30.

Calfee said the Nationwide Tour Championship and the PGA Championship will draw from the same pool of volunteers, sponsors and advertisers and it would be too much to ask for commitments to the Nationwide event two months after the PGA.

Calfee said the tour hopes to return in 2013.
