Harris English, the U.S. Walker Cup team member who won this year's Nationwide Children's Hospital Invitational, will make his pro debut at next week's Soboba Golf Classic. English, who has accepted membership on the Nationwide Tour, will play four events with hopes of making the Nationwide Tour Championship.

A player has 60 days from the date of his victory to accept Nationwide Tour membership (a player also must be a professional to accept membership). English won July 24, which allowed him to delay his decision until after the Walker Cup. He went 2-2 in the United States' loss to Great Britain & Ireland last weekend at Royal Aberdeen.

English's Nationwide victory also earned him exempt status on the tour in 2012. After Soboba, he will play the WNB Golf Classic Sept. 29-Oct. 2 in Midland, Texas, the Children's Hospital Classic Oct. 6-9 in Chattanooga, Tenn., and the Winn-Dixie Jacksonville Open Oct. 20-23 in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

The Children's Hospital Classic will be a homecoming of sorts for English, who attended Chattanooga's Baylor School from 2003 to 2007.

“My goal is to make the Nationwide Tour Championship, which would mean I’ll have a chance to earn my PGA Tour card, which is the ultimate goal," English said. The top 60 finishers on the Nationwide Tour money list earn entry into the Tour Championship. That event has a $180,000 winner's check, virtually guaranteeing that any participant can earn a Tour card with a victory.

English is exempt into the second stage of Q-School by virtue of his Nationwide Tour victory.

English is not credited with money that he would've earned had he been professional at the Nationwide Children's Hospital Invitational. English was the third amateur ever to win a Nationwide Tour event, and second this season. His college roommate, Russell Henley, won this year's Stadion Classic at UGA.
