Founders Cup to return to Phoenix in 2012
The LPGA announced last week that the RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup will return next year to Wildfire Golf Club at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort and Spa in Phoenix. The event will be held March 15-18, 2012, and move to a 72-hole format.
The inaugural event attracted some of the highest-ranked players in the world, including No. 1 Yani Tseng, Cristie Kerr, Jiyai Shin, Paula Creamer and Natalie Gulbis. Hall of Famer Karrie Webb won the event at 12-under 204. The 2012 edition will mark the 38th year of LPGA competition in the Phoenix area.
“The JW Marriott provides the perfect backdrop for the RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup,” said tournament director Chris Garrett in a statement. “The inaugural event was a resounding success and we look forward to announcing more details about the tournament later this year.”
