LPGA to reach Thompson decision Friday
LPGA commissioner Mike Whan received Lexi Thompson’s petition for membership on Sept. 29. Whan told Thompon’s agent, Bobby Kreusler, that a decision would be made by Friday afternoon, according to an LPGA spokesperson.
Thompson, 16, won the Navistar LPGA Classic earlier in the month but didn’t meet the tour’s age requirement (18) for automatic membership. She’ll turn 17 Feb. 10.
Earlier this year, Whan granted Thompson permission to enter LPGA Q-School. She won the first stage convincingly, but pulled out of this week’s second stage and is banking on Whan’s approval.
Thompson’s victory in Prattville qualified her for the season-ending CME Group Titleholders event in late November.
