Cal wins fourth title of the season at Thunderbird

California won the ASU Thunderbird Invitational on April 7 for its fourth win of the season. The Golden Bears also set a tournament record with their final-round 10-under 274.
Cal entered the final round at the ASU Karsten Golf Course trailing San Diego State by four shots. The Golden Bears surged to the top of the leaderboard in the final round, finishing with a tournament-total 17-under 835, also a new school record. It earned them their first ASU Thunderbird title in the event’s 40-year history.
New Mexico and San Diego State tied for second at 9-under 843, and UNLV was fourth alone at 2 under.
Cal, ranked No. 6 by Golfweek, has placed inside the top 5 in each of its 10 starts this season. At the Thunderbird, the team placed all five players within in the top 16. UNLV’s Derek Ernst was the individual medalist at 9-under 204.
