Collegians invited to inaugural Legends Pro-Am
The top-ranked college players in the country will have the opportunity to compete alongside LPGA legends in July at the Judson Collegiate Invitational and Legends Tour Atlanta Pro-Am. The inaugural event, played at Country Club of Roswell in Roswell, Ga., will feature a unique format which features a pro-am, team best-ball and stroke play.
Invitations were extended to the top players (through March) in the Golfstat women’s college rankings, and the field will include the first 60 players to commit. Thirty Legends Tour players will make up the rest of the field, including Nancy Lopez, Beth Daniel, Betsy King, Pat Bradley, Amy Alcott, Patty Sheehan, Lorie Kane, Liselotte Neumann, Sherri Steinhauer and Jan Stephenson. Teams will be comprised of one professional and two college players.
“It will be fun to play with these amateurs, and we think this event will be a big success for both the college players and the Legends,” said Rosie Jones, an Atlanta resident and Legends Tour member who played at Ohio State. “This event will bridge the gap between the Legends of the LPGA and the future leaders of women’s golf. I think the dynamics of those two groups will be invigorating.”
The Legends Pro-Am will be played Sunday, July 15, followed by a best-ball competition July 16 during which Legends Players also participate in a separate stroke-place competition for a $120,000 purse. An amateur stroke-play competition will continue July 17-18. All ticket proceeds will benefit Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
