Josh Fosdick spent two seasons as an assistant for the men’s and women’s teams at Oklahoma State.

Now he’s got his first college head-coaching gig after being hired to lead the men’s program at Texas-Pan American, the school announced Monday.

“Josh has a proven track record at a Big 12 institution. His experience in coaching and recruiting will be invaluable to our program,” said Chris King, UTPA director of athletics.

Fosdick, a 1997 graduate of Northwestern State who did his graduate studies at Oklahoma State, turned pro in 2003 and played two seasons on the NGA Hooters Tour. He also served as head boys coach at Edmond (Okla.) Memorial High for two years.

Fosdick replaces Ofelia Lopez, who coached the men’s team at UTPA since the 2007-08 season and now will serve solely as the women’s coach. It’s the first time the school has had separate men’s and women’s coaches since the 2006-07 season.

“I'm really excited about joining UTPA,” Fosdick said. “Being a head coach is such an amazing responsibility. It's so hard to get into that role. The opportunity to come in there and make a difference is pretty exciting. UTPA has everything you need to build a real quality championship program.”
