Tiger to play CIMB Classic in Malaysia in October
Tuesday, August 7, 2012
Tiger Woods will be among the 48 players in the field for the CIMB Classic Oct. 25-28 at the Mines Resort and Golf Club in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the CIMB Group announced earlier this week.
Woods, along with past champions Ben Crane and Bo Van Pelt, will join the 48-man field, which will feature 30 players from the PGA Tour, 10 from the Asian Tour and eight sponsor exemptions. The purse for the event is $6.1 million.
"I look forward to coming out to Malaysia at the end of October," Woods said. "I played the World Cup in 1999 and have fond memories of the country and its people. I've heard that CIMB does a good job staging the event. It has traditionally boasted a strong field and I look forward to being part of it this year."
Also, the group announced that the event will be upgraded to an Official Money Event on the PGA Tour and will be part of the FedEx Cup competition beginning in 2013.
