KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – Ben Crane withdrew from the PGA Championship on Wednesday with a back injury. He has been replaced in the field by Chris Stroud.

This is the second consecutive week that Crane withdrew due to injury. He pulled out of the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational after shooting 66-75 in the first two rounds. This also will be the second consecutive major that Crane has missed. He was an alternate for the Open Championship but didn’t make the trip to England. He would’ve gotten into the Open Championship as first alternate when Russ Cochran withdrew the morning of the first round.

Stroud is No. 169 in the Official World Golf Ranking. This is his first major of 2012 and his first career PGA Championship appearance.
