26. Clemson
2011-2012 Golfweek rank: 23
Go-to-guy: Crawford Reeves
Season outlook: Clemson made it to the NCAA postseason for the 31st consecutive year last season before finishing a disappointing 11th at NCAA regionals.
The loss of Corbin Mills, who decided to forgo his senior year and turn pro, will leave a major void, but the return of senior Crawford Reeves, sophomore Billy Kennerly and the addition of a strong recruiting class should keep Clemson in the national conversation.
Reeves missed all of last fall because of a back injury. He returned in the spring to notch two top 5s, help the Tigers win two tournaments and finish fourth at the ACC Championship. Kennerly’s 72.73 stroke average last season is second of Clemson's returnees, behind only Reeves (71.62).
Junior Thomas Bradshaw, who won the Rice Planters Amateur and was runner-up at the North-South Amateur this summer, also returns.
Freshman Cody Proveaux, of Leesville, S.C., has a chance to make an immediate impact. Proveaux, the 2011 AJGA Rolex Junior Golfer of the Year, has had a solid summer. He tied for eighth at the Players Amateur, won the South Carolina Amateur and sank a crucial putt to help his side capture the AJGA's Wyndham Cup.
