No. 26 Ohio State

2011-12 Golfweek rank: 20

Go-to girl: Rachel Rohanna

Season outlook: Ohio State will have continuity in its old guard this season. Behind a solid senior trio, however, someone needs to step up.

Rachel Rohanna, Amy Meier and Susana Benavides enter their final college season for the Buckeyes. Rohanna, who played every event and led the team in scoring last season, closed the year with a top-15 finish at the NCAA Championship. Meier had the team’s third-lowest stroke average, and Benavides posted three top 10s.

However, the Buckeyes roster took a hit with the transfer of second-leading scorer Kendall Prince, who was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year even though she missed the postseason because of appendicitis. Prince joins the Arizona roster this season. Ohio State also lost senior Vicky Villaneuva, who contributed one top 10 in 10 starts. That means sophomore Claudia Lim, who posted four top 20s, likely will be expected to play a bigger role for the Buckeyes.

It’s a familiar enough look in Columbus that the Buckeyes can repeat last year’s two-victory season. Exceeding those expectations comes down to the seniors – and who emerges behind them.
