Hope4Heroes launches free golf tour
Friday, August 24, 2012
Retired veteran Victor Luebker first came up with the idea for Hope4Heroes five years ago, and in 2009, the organization was founded to support combat veterans and their families through scholarships and the funding of job-training programs.
One of the ways Luebker and Hope4Heroes garner support is through free golf, which allows foursomes to play at any course, including PGA and resort courses, across the country. There is a minimum donation, and participants can choose from per-hole to per-round donations, which vary depending on the course.
“They can play any course, anywhere and at any time,” Luebker said. “It’s ongoing.”
The organization also is sponsoring a national golf tour in conjunction with the free golf that features free tournaments and events in several U.S. cities. The first stop is at Duran Golf Course on Sept. 28 in Viera, Fla. It is a free tournament and is part of a one-year push for 1 million events played. “It’s our official public coming out,” Luebker said.
Veterans are encouraged to enter the tournaments and take part in the free rounds of golf.
