In preparation for the upcoming college season, Golfweek is breaking down the rosters of each of its preseason top 30 teams.

22. Oklahoma

2011-2012 Golfweek rank: 26

Go-to-guy: Abraham Ancer

Season outlook: The Sooners were tied for fourth after two rounds of last spring's NCAA Championship at Riviera Country Club before ending 54 holes of stroke play in 11th place, three spots out of the final eight for match play. “This one will sting for a little while,” head coach Ryan Hybl said then.

Still, Oklahoma earned its best finish at the NCAA Championship since placing ninth in 1993, rallied from three strokes down in the final round to place fifth at NCAA regionals and had seven different golfers post top-10 individual finishes. There was a lot of good to take away from last season, and with nearly everyone back, Hybl’s fourth season with the Sooners could be even better.

Senior Abraham Ancer will lead an Oklahoma squad that returns five of its top six scorers from a year ago. Ancer had a team-best 72.5 stroke average, while senior Will Kropp, juniors Eduardo Castiello and Michael Schoolcraft and sophomore Michael Gellerman all had averages of 74.5 or lower. Ancer’s summer was highlighted by a semifinal appearance at the Western Amateur. Schoolcraft qualified for match play at the U.S. Amateur before losing in the Round of 64 to Zack Munroe.

That experienced group also welcomes a solid freshman class that includes Beau Titsworth, Eloy Gonzalez and Blake Stasiunas and should give the Sooners plenty of depth.
