In preparation for the upcoming college season, Golfweek is breaking down the rosters of each of its preseason top 30 teams.
No. 21 Oregon
2011-12 Golfweek rank: 24
Go-to girl: Cassy Isagawa
Season outlook: There will be no radical changes for Oregon this season, as the Ducks return a roster that looks very similar to last season’s squad. Head coach Ria Scott effectively exchanged senior Ashley Edwards for incoming freshman Caroline Inglis. It’s easy math on paper, but the question is what Oregon can do with its experienced lineup.
Oregon’s 2011-12 season ended disappointingly early after the Ducks finished one stroke out of the top 8 at the NCAA Central Regional, and the entire year was a story of ebb and flow. There were four top-5 finishes – including two runners-up – but also an 11th, 12th and the ninth at regionals.
The Ducks have one of the best underclassmen in the country in sophomore Cassy Isagawa, who posted seven top-10 finishes in 10 starts. Senior Cheyenne Hickle and junior Raphaela Dyer offer returning experience along with sophomores Cali Hipp and Monica Petchakan. Expect Inglis, an Oregon native who owns three state high school individual titles, to challenge for a lineup spot – a scenario that should keep the upperclassmen motivated.
Oregon has a difficult schedule this fall, with an early trip to Japan for the Topy Cup, then stops at the Mason Rudolph, Edean Ihlanfeldt and Stanford Intercollegiate. The talent and level of competition are there. Now we'll see what Oregon can do with them.
