No. 18 Texas AM
2011-12 Golfweek rank: 16
Go-to girl: Katerina Ruzickova
Season outlook: The Aggies' roster is long – and it’s experienced. It also has all the necessary pieces for success, from a No. 1 player who can go low to a pair of back-up scorers to solid Nos. 4 and 5 players.
Texas A&M should benefit greatly again this season from junior Katerina Ruzickova, a powerful player from the Czech Republic who led the team in scoring last season and finished the year at No. 31 in Golfweek’s individual rankings. In the past two years, Ruzickova has finished T-6 and 13th, respectively, at the national championship.
For backup, look to sophomore Patricia Garcia of Puerto Rico and senior Mary Michael Maggio, who transferred from LSU a year ago and immediately found her footing in College Station, contributing four top 10s. She also has an outgoing personality that offers more than a few intangibles.
Senior Sarah Beth Davis, who advanced to the Round of 32 at the recent U.S. Women’s Amateur, and junior Natalie Reeves were in A&M's lineup for the majority of last season. Other returnees who could compete for playing time include Susy Grunden and Chelsea Mocio, and a pair of freshmen – Alex Neal and Callie Scheffler – make the Aggies even deeper.
