No. 14 Florida

2011-12 Golfweek rank: 13

Go-to girl: Camilla Hedberg

Season outlook: The Gators didn’t make much noise last season for having such an accomplished player as Hedberg. The Spaniard finished her freshman year at No. 24 in the Golfweek rankings, but the Gators won only once, at their home event. Florida did, however, post five other top 5s.

In her last season with the Gators, senior Isabelle Lendl has more to offer. She’s capable of going low, and spent the summer trying to avoid high numbers. In the past, one disappointing round typically has plagued each tournament. At last year’s NCAA Championship, Lendl opened 82-78 before closing 73-66.

Combine those two with senior Mia Piccio – the No. 2 scorer from last season – and Florida is a team capable of contending at many events. The Gators can spend the fall schedule getting their feet underneath them as they adjust to new coach Emily Bastel and the loss of reliable scorers Evan Jensen and Andrea Watts to graduation. Freshmen Ursa Orehek and Emma Smyser also join the roster.

This is a team that should easily advance to the NCAA Championship and contend for a spot in the top 10.
