Junior PGA moves to Trump National in Washington
Ariya Jutanugarn fired a 5-under 67 to win the Junior PGA by three shots over Samantha Wagner.
The PGA of America has named Trump National Golf Club in Washington as the host of the 2013 Junior PGA Championship presented by Under Armour. The 72-hole championship, in its 38th playing, will take place July 30-Aug. 2.
“The Junior PGA Championship has a proud tradition in providing one of the best golf experiences possible for the next generation of golfers,” said PGA of America President Ted Bishop. “To bring this championship to a facility like Trump National Golf Club in the shadow of our nation’s capital reflects our association’s commitment to offer an outstanding venue to identify the finest young golfers in our country.”
Trump National Golf Club in Washington is one of 14 golf properties Trump owns throughout North America and Europe. The 18-hole Tournament Course was designed by Tom Fazio and fronts the Potomac River.
“We are thrilled to have this opportunity, and are determined to provide an unforgettable venue for the best young golfers in the country," said John Valder, Trump National's head pro. "The course is in amazing shape, and I look forward to a fantastic tournament this summer.”
Ariya Jutanugarn, Golfweek's top-ranked junior, defended her title at this year’s Junior PGA Championship and Robby Shelton claimed the boys title. The tournament was played at Sycamore Hills Golf Club in Fort Wayne, Ind.
