2013 Web.com Tour schedule features 25 stops
Wednesday, December 12, 2012
The 2013 Web.com Tour schedule will be the smallest in history, but also may be the most important.
The PGA Tour’s developmental circuit will conduct 25 events in 2013, according to a schedule that was distributed to players at last week’s rookie orientation. Golfweek obtained a copy of the schedule. The official schedule is expected to be released later this week. The Web.com Tour denied comment until the official schedule is released.
The final four Web.com tournaments of 2013 will be the inaugural Web.com Tour Finals, which will replace Q-School as a source of PGA Tour cards. Next year will be the first year that all 50 PGA Tour cards will come from the Web.com Tour. The tour will also play its first-ever event in Brazil, the same country that will see golf return to the Olympics in 2016.
The Miccosukee Championship and Soboba Classic are two notable omissions from the schedule. The Stonebrae Championship near San Francisco also is not on the schedule, though it is scheduled to return to the tour in 2014, according to a previous Web.com Tour release.
Miccosukee had been played since 2003 near Miami. Soboba, which started in 2009, offered a $1 million purse in its first two seasons. Its $750,000 purse was one of the tour’s largest in 2012.
The tour is scheduled to kick off in Panama Feb. 21-24, a week later than this year. The season will conclude Sept. 26-29, a month earlier than in 2012, with the Web.com Tour Championship at TPC Sawgrass.
The tour will begin with three consecutive events in Panama, Colombia and Chile, according to the schedule distributed at rookie orientation. The tour will take a week off before the domestic opener March 21-24 at the Louisiana Open. Another off week will precede the tour’s first-ever event in Brazil.
The final regular-season event of 2013 will be held Aug. 22-25 in Omaha, Neb. It will be followed by the inaugural Web.com Tour Finals, which kick off with the Hotel Fitness Championship Aug. 29-Sept. 1 at Sycamore Hills Golf Club in Fort Wayne, Ind. The Chiquita Classic at The Club at Longview in Weddington, N.C., and the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship on the Scarlet Course at the Ohio State University Golf Club in Columbus, Ohio, will be played the following two weeks. An off week will precede the Web.com Tour Championship on TPC Sawgrass’ Dye’s Valley Course in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
