In a sense, the Bridgestone J40 fairway wood lineup is old-fashioned in its structure. Bridgestone has long focused its club offerings in the United States on avid players, many of whom avoid 7-woods and 9-woods.

The Bridgestone J40 fairway woods have relatively shallow faces but are long from heel to toe for added forgiveness. The face angles are square, similar to the J40 drivers.

The J40 fairway wood family includes a 3-wood (14 degrees), 4-wood (16 degrees) and 5-wood (18 degrees). Technically speaking, 14 degrees generally is considered a strong 3-wood, but this one has gained a reputation for being easy to hit with a high trajectory.

The J40 fairway woods, with True Temper Project X graphite shafts, sell for $199.99.
