Monday, February 6, 2012
Emilio Maurer of Puebla, Mexico, has given a verbal commitment to play college golf at the University of Oklahoma.
Maurer, who is ranked No. 1 in the Mexican Federation Junior Ranking, was receiving the most interest from Central Florida, North Texas and Oklahoma but decided on Oklahoma.
“I had a really tough decision between UCF and OU,” Maurer said. “I chose Oklahoma because I had the feeling OU was the right place for me. I really like the campus, the coaches are great people and they have been doing a great job. I have friends on the team, and I felt like home.”
Maurer, who is a member of the Mexican National Team, advanced to the quarterfinals at this past summer’s U.S. Junior. He placed in the top 10 at the Mexican Amateur Championship as well as finishing in the top 10 at the AJGA Puerto Rico Junior Open.
