Duke breaks winless streak with Allstate title
The winless streak is over for Duke, which won the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Feb. 28 for its first team title since the 2010 Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic.
Duke, ranked No. 13 by Golfweek, made up four shots on USC during the final round at English Turn Golf Club in New Orleans. The Blue Devils shot even-par 288, their best team score of the week, to climb to the top of the leaderboard. Duke’s 18-over 877 was three shots better than runner-up Colorado (No. 18). Third-ranked USC fell to third in the final round, one shot behind the Buffs.
Duke’s previous best finish of the 2011-12 season was a fifth-place at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge to open the spring. That was the only other top-5 finish of the season.
Junior Lindy Duncan led the charge for Duke, finishing T-4 at 1-under 215. Sophomore Laetitia Beck also finished in the top 10, coming in T-9 at 3-over 219.
Colorado’s Alex Stewart won the individual title with her 5-under 211. She made up considerable ground with her final-round 67, which moved her from fifth to first.
Oregon freshman Cassy Isagawa was the runner-up at 4-under 212, and USC’s Lisa McCloskey was third another shot back.
