Glover (knee) WDs from Kapalua event
KAPALUA, Hawaii — Former U.S. Open champion Lucas Glover has withdrawn from the season-opening Tournament of Champions after spraining his right knee while paddleboarding.
It’s the second straight year a player has had to withdraw after getting injured in the ocean. Geoff Ogilvy cut a finger on a piece of coral last year.
Glover was paddleboarding Saturday in the Pacific when his foot caught the side of the board and led to sprained ligaments.
Without Glover, that leaves 27 players in the winners-only field to start the season. It’s the smallest field since the event moved to Kapalua in 1999.
