Saturday, January 14, 2012

Parker Derby, ranked No. 20 in the Class of 2013, has given a verbal commitment to play college golf at the University of Georgia.

Derby, who is from Columbus, Ga., made unofficial visits to Georgia, Oklahoma State and South Carolina.

“It's a good fit because it’s pretty close to home,” Derby said. “I am close to my swing coach, Chan Reeves, and I really like the atmosphere in Athens, and Coach (Chris) Haack and Coach (Jimmy) Douglas are great guys. They are fun to be around and always nice.”

Derby, who attends Brookstone School in Columbus, won the Bobby Chapman Junior Invitational in September, placed second at the Bubba Conlee Invitational in July and was runner-up at the AJGA Polo Golf Junior Classic in November. readers: We value your input and welcome your comments, but please be respectful in this forum.
