Thursday, January 19, 2012
The 2012 U.S. Curtis Cup team is now complete. The USGA announced the final three members to its eight-player team: Lisa McCloskey, 20, of Houston; Erica Popson, 20, of Davenport, Fla.; and Emily Tubert, 19, of Burbank, Calif.
They will join Amy Anderson, 19, of Oxbow, N.D.; Lindy Duncan, 21, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; Austin Ernst, 19, of Seneca, S.C.; Tiffany Lua, 20, of Rowland Heights, Calif.; and Brooke Pancake, 21, of Chattanooga, Tenn., at the biennial matches held June 8-10 at The Nairn Golf Club in Scotland.
Tubert, the 2010 U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links champion, is one of two USGA champions on this year’s roster. The Arkansas sophomore won three tournaments as a freshman and represented the winning U.S. team at the Spirit International.
Popson earned a spot on the team on the strength of her performance in college. The Tennessee sophomore won four tournaments last year, including the SEC Championship. She is No. 2 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings.
USC senior Lisa McCloskey was runner-up to Tubert at the 2010 WAPL and is eighth in the college rankings. McCloskey represented Colombia at the 2010 World Amateur Team Championship.
Alternates for this year’s team are Erynne Lee, 18, of Silverdale, Wash.; and Marina Alex, 21, of Wayne, N.J.
The U.S. has won the past seven matches against Great Britain & Ireland.
