Fantasy Tip Sheet: Waste Management

Kyle Stanley hits his tee shot on the seventh hole during the third round of the Farmers Insurance Open.

With an impressive field that features Rickie Fowler, Webb Simpson, Matt Kuchar, Bubba Watson and Phil Mickelson, it will be a name that we didn't expect that will be the story this week.

Kyle Stanley.

Will he immediately rebound from his historic collapse at Torrey Pines last week? How mentally tough is he? Will the raucous Waste Management crowds get him going?

Two of our fantasy panelists feel that he is going to be a factor this week, one saying he should be the overall favorite.

As for the season standings, Jim McCabe took a big leap up the leaderboard after picking Brandt Snedeker last week, as well as Cameron Tringale as his sleeper.

Our picks for this week:

Rank Winner Wild Card Last Week
Rude Webb Simpson

Still in form, and TPC is a good course for him. But then they all are.

Kyle Stanley

Something tells me he might get back on the horse right away.

Winner: Nick Watney ($13,020); wild card: Geoff Ogilvy ($14,940). 2012 total: $818,288

McCabe Bubba Watson

His adopted home and can't imagine there's anyone more popular with the festive fans, excluding Phil Mickelson. He'll provide the fireworks and the power that the crowd insists upon and he's played well enough to warrant strong consideration.

Keegan Bradley

Has the game built for TPC Scottsdale and comes in playing well, having broken par in 10 of his 12 rounds thus far this year.

Winner: Brandt Snedeker ($1,080,000); wild card: Cameron Tringale ($264,000). 2012 total: $1,627,525

Martin Martin Laird

Many people will pick defending champion Mark Wilson, who's coming off a recent win at the Humana Challenge. I'm going to go a different route, and take Martin Laird. He finished second and 14th in his first two starts of 2012, and was third at last year's Phoenix Open.

Jason Dufner

Last year's runner-up is coming off a 12th-place finish at the Humana Challenge.

Winner: Phil Mickelson ($0); wild card: Sang-Moon Bae ($29,100). 2012 total: $407,112

Miceli Kyle Stanley

Call me a sentimentalist, but I'm going with the kid. It's his first appearance at TPC Scottsdale, but I think Stanley could be this year's David Toms. He does have the game to get through last week.

Mark Wilson

In the "Are you kidding me?" department, Wilson has won three times in the last 13 months, all on the West Coast including last year at Phoenix. His record is solid with two top 10s in four appearances and never has missed the cut. So if you don't pick him here you may want to go into some other line of work.

Winner: Nick Watney ($13,020); wild card: Ernie Els ($13,785). 2012 total: $1,287,626

Ringler Phil Mickelson

I know, it makes no sense. His current form might belong in the waste management, but that's when Lefty tends to surprise us the most.

Mark Wilson

Some will say he is not a sleeper with three wins in his the last 54 weeks, but lingering outside the top 50 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Indexand No. 42 in the Official World Ranking makes him eligible for a sleeper pick.

Winner: Charles Howell III ($18,720); wild card: Pat Perez ($57,600). 2012 total: $1,321,636
